if you don’t know your history, you’re doomed to repeat it

When the past calls, let it go to voicemail. It has nothing new to say.—

It only has nothing new to say when we haven’t changed our perspective. Looking through the same lens gives us the same view. So this tack of ‘letting it go to voicemail’ is great if all you’re doing is wallowing and running useless tape loops. But if you’re doing ‘historical analysis’ of a sort and trying to figure out whether you have established patterns you’d like to change, looking at the past is imperative. The crux of this is to identify whether looking to the past is serving you or not. Work to become more consciously aware of why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Life is a gift. Honour that.

Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the child as it is to the caterpillar. -Bradley Millar

A person’s a person, no matter how small. Or, flipping it, remembering that humans are mammalian animals, an animal’s an animal, no matter how small.

There’s a very religiously devout person I know and it really shook me up inside that she had zero problem stepping on ants or letting her kids step on ants. Life is precious, no matter the package it comes in.
